We had an opportunity recently to work with a new client in Batangas who needed a custom spinal brace for her daughter, a 14-year old patient who has scoliosis.
Scoliosis is an irregular curvature of the spine that occurs in children, during which the spine may curve laterally or take on an "S" shape. There are many types of scoliosis, and it can be caused by birth defects in the nervous system, tumors on the spinal cord or vertebrae, or muscular dystrophy.
We started by assessing her case, then took measurements and casting. After a few weeks, we came back for the fitting of her new custom spinal brace. We had her try it on so we could make sure it fits just right.
To make sure the spinal brace does what it's supposed to do (help her keep her spine straight), we made a few adjustments and made sure the straps were enough for her to comfortably move around.
